Açaí production in the municipality of São Miguel do Guamá, Pará: perspective of açaí beaters

The pulp of the açaí fruit is a staple food for large part population Pará. Nonetheless, despite significance product regional economy, there gap in literature on market potential processing this fruit. Thus, objective study was to identify challenges and opportunities beaters development activity municipality São Miguel do Guamá, state Pará, Brazil. This investigation characterized as applied research, composed qualitative quantitative approaches. Data collection based interviews with linked production chains: middlemen, waste loaders, financial support institutions, institutions. results were submitted SWOT analysis determine risk factors internal-external matrix. As an internal factor, it observed difficulty maintain income during harvest period, given decrease availability raw materials drop price product. Externally, due lack strengthening collective organizations. It also that great distance between public actors effective identifying faces severe threats weaknesses, internally externally, which serves warning municipality, regarding greater attention needed its chain, evidenced by investments activity.
